In line with his constitutional responsibility, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah has become more proactive about the appointment of the caretaker prime minister, asking the people to suggest suitable names in this regard. "The appointment of the caretaker prime minister is a major constitutional responsibility. I ask the people of Pakistan to suggest suitable names for caretaker prime minister and we will consider them during the discussion with other political parties and the prime minister. I will try my best to appoint a best suited person," Khursheed Shah said while talking to parliamentary reporters in his chamber here at Parliament House on Tuesday.
He said that only three months are left and now the process of consultation should be started for this purpose. The opposition leader said that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi hasn't yet made any contact with him to initiate the consultation process for appointment of the caretaker prime minister. The opposition leader further said that the powers of the caretaker prime minister are clearly mentioned in the Constitution, adding that the latter is bound to run daily government affairs.
Commenting on the results of NA-154 Lodhran-I by-election held on Monday last, Shah said that the people announced their verdict through vote. He said that Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan took a stance against dynastic politics but eventually he himself deviated from his stance; therefore, PTI had to suffer a defeat in Lodhran. He said that new doors of politics would open after forthcoming general election 2018.
