Supreme Court Thursday issued arrest warrants for former Ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani while issuing directives to Federal Investigation Agency to bring Haqqani back to Pakistan. Husain Haqqani is facing proceedings in the apex court for writing a memorandum to Admiral Mike Mullen seeking the US intervention, alleging that Pakistan Army intended to topple the then PPP government in the aftermath of the May 1, 2010 US raid in Abbottabad to kill Osama bin Laden.
Earlier, the Supreme Court sought a compliance report from the federal government by February 15 over the steps taken to bring the former ambassador to the United States back to Pakistan. Appearing before a three-member bench led by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday, Director General FIA Bashir Memon submitted that arrest warrants by the court are required for issuance of red warrant to apprehhend Haqqani through Interpol Upon which the apex court issued the arrest warrants and adjourned the hearing till a date in office.
