Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that terrorism was an international issue and still it is rife even in America but "We have successfully eliminated it through our political will and with the support of people of Pakistan, particularly of Karachi." This, he said, while delivering his presidential address at 'Naya Nazimabad' where launching ceremony of Karachi Kings was organised on Sunday evening.
He said that terrorism was not only a problem of Pakistan or Asia but it was an international issue which badly affected the entire World. "America and various other countries are still struggling against terrorism but with the grace of Allah we have eliminated it completely and now working to make the peace in the city sustainable," he said and added "We are restoring the 'put-off' lights of this city and reconstructing its dilapidated infrastructure." He lauded the services and sacrifices of law enforcement agencies, particularly the police, the Rangers and intelligence agencies that fought against terrorists, mafia and gangsters in this city bravely. "Now, Karachi is one of the peaceful city of the world and we are working day and night for its reconstruction," he said. Murad Shah lamented that the media was accusing the government of digging all the roads in the city which has caused serious problems for people. "Yes, I have got them [roads] dug because we are reconstructing them for you [people of Karachi]- we are not only constructing roads but laying new water supply and drainage lines," he said. He added "it is not a simple task but to replace more than 50 to 60 years old drainage system is a big challenge and Alhamdullah we have achieved our targets," he said. "Insha Allah, in May the city would give a new look, a look of most developed and a beautiful city," he vowed.
The chief minister urged the media to support him in reconstruction of the city. "This city is one of the few best cities of the world in terms of its diversified population, sea ports, industrial hub, fish industry and to some extent agriculture particularly the vegetables and fruits," he said and went on saying "the best characteristic of Karachi is the holy places of different religions such as mosques, temples, churches, gordwaras and top of it people of different faith get together at the shrines of sufis and saint - this pluralistic society is rare in the world," he said. "Yes, this sense of co-existence had dwindled down but now it is emerging again," he said. Murad Ali Shah said that the world believes in the efforts of the government it has made for restoration of peace. "Their faith in the restored law and order is visible from the Moharram sermons of Syedna Mufadal Saifuddin in which over 70,000 people, most of them were foreigners participated, His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan visited Karachi after 17 years and now PSL final is being held."
