Secretary Ministry of Excise and Taxation, Narcotics Control Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Javed Marwat said that youth are the main victims of drug menace that is spreading due to increasing isolation in the society caused by excessive use of mobiles and internet. He added they need to take measures where we involve our youth in cultural activities and let them intact with our strong value system to eradicate this abuse from our society.
He stated this while addressing a seminar on 'Anti-Drugs Awareness' as chief guest jointly organized by Rotract Clubs UET, a student society, here on Wednesday. The Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar, Professor Dr Iftikhar Hussain, Dean Faculty of Engineering Professor Dr Noor Muhammad, Registrar Dr Khizar Azam, other heads of departments, faculty members and a large number of students also attended the event.
Dr Iftikhar Hussain Vice Chancellor UET Peshawar said that our mission is to free UET Peshawar from this menace and assured to take every possible step in this regard. He also stressed for creating awareness through seminars and praised Director Clubs Samad Baseer for organizing a seminar on such an important issue. He directed the concerned departments to establish a strict check and balance system to stop drug addiction among students through strict disciplinary action.
Dr Khizar commended the Government in preventing the cultivation of poppy crop which he said, has reduced significantly in the smuggling of drugs as well as controlling drugs in the country.
