A sub-committee of Senate Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions (Safron) met here on Wednesday to examine ongoing development projects being run by international and local NGOs in federally administered tribal areas (Fata). The meeting convened by Senator Muhammad Saleh Shah also examined the draft rules of Khasadar under the preparation of the Ministry of Safron.
The director general Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) informed the committee regarding registered NGOs, INGOs and projects of FDMA with complete details of each NGO, project, donors' name, work executed so far, details of employees with names, father's names, computerized national identity cards (CNIC) number, domicile, post and posting place.
The FDMA director general said that the Ministry of Interior is responsible for formulating policies for NGOs and their registrations in the Fata. The FDMA only processed for their no objection certificate (NOC).
The director general maintained that 14 INGOs and NGOs are working over ongoing development projects and they have 271 employees. Out of total, 150 are locals and 121 are foreigners, adding these NGOs were directed to advertise vacant posts in local newspapers through political agent, so that local youth could be provided job opportunities.
The director general project FATA informed the committee regarding projects, NGOs and INGOs working under Directorate of Projects FATA with details of each NGO/ project, donor's name, work executed so far, details of employees with names, father's name, CNIC number, domicile, post and posting place.
He said that the NGOs were running 19 projects in FATA where 52 percent local and 48 percent belonged to other parts of the country. He said that these NGOs were issued licenses on satisfactory report of organizations. The FDA chief executive officer briefed the committee about the projects of the FDA with complete details of their projects. The convener committee directed director general to submit details of projects being executed in the Fata in the next meeting.
