Six students of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI) of Engineering Sciences and Technology Swabi have proceeded to United States under international Cultural Exchange Programme of the US Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP). Officials on Wednesday said that the students are part of 200 students selected under the programme from Pakistan. They would study in the American universities for one semester and will come back to GIK Institute in June 2018.
The students are: Ali Jawad of Faculty of Materials and Chemical Engineering, Alamgir Jahangir Khan, Faculty of Engineering Sciences, Muhammad Aon, Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Hamza Ahmed Abbasi, Muhammad Shahnoor Azhar and Qazi Jahangeer Arif Ali of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
They said Jawad will study in University of Maine, Alamgir in Old Dominion University, Aon in Boise State University, Idaho, Abbasi in Saint Martin's University, Azhar in Valparaiso University and Arif Ali in University of Toledo.
They will represent GIK Institute at the "Global Undergraduate Programme-UGRAD", founded by the US Educational Foundation in Pakistan, they said, adding that the programme will provide them an opportunity to learn amongst a pool of competent students who have been selected from across the world.
Apart from helping to build their skills, the programme will enable them to acquire and dissipate contemporary education taught in the US in Pakistan by conducting mandatory workshops/sessions after completion of the programme.
Jehangir Bashar, Rector GIK Institute said that hundreds of young Pakistanis proceed to the United States every year for study and gaining experience at American universities. "The USEFP programme is committed to Pakistan's youth and Pakistan's future development," he said.
