Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Friday announced that it will start training of around nine million polling staff from March this year for upcoming general election. Chief Election Commissioner former justice Sardar Muhammad Raza said this while addressing a launching ceremony of training curriculum for training of the polling staff.
He said the training curriculum had been prepared in a short period of five months and this would help train the polling staff for upcoming general election. The CEC said the training of the polling staff would commence from March that year. He thanked his whole staff for preparing the useful material.
The training curriculum included booklets for presiding officers, assistant presiding officers and polling officers. These booklets explain duties of polling staff, so that they can perform their duties well on election day. The training material has been prepared in the light of Election Act 2017, the chief election commissioner said, adding that the booklets explain in detail all the processes before the election, during the polling and after completion of the polling.
The CEC said that different processes involving the elections and polling have been explained with the help of diagrams too, so that the polling staff can deal with all the issues easily during their duty. The election material contains instructions for polling officers, training manual for trainer of the lead trainers, training manual for lead trainer and training manual for master trainer.
The CEC said that the Commission has been trying its best to hold free and fair election in the country and the role of polling staff is very important for the purpose. The Election Commission has formally started its preparations for the general election, he said, adding that it will make the election transparent with the help of other state institutions.
The five-year term of the PML-N government is going to expire on June 1 this year while the general election is expected to be held in August this year.
