The Senate Standing Committee on States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Friday discussed non-payment of hard area allowance to the teachers of FATA colleges. The panel also took up the matter of doubling the quota for FATA students in various education and health institutions of the provinces and the subsequent directions issued by Higher Education Commission (HEC). The committee also reviewed the implementation status of recommendations of the Senate Sub-Committee on SAFRON, which were adopted by the Senate Standing Committee on SAFRON and the Senate regarding restoration and execution of SWA umbrella schemes of health and education departments, which had been deleted from FATA Annual Development Plan.
The committee further discussed the inquiry report by ACS FATA regarding illegal appointments and up-gradation of M&E staff. The committee met with Senator Hilalur Rehman in the chair. Rehman said that it is important for development of the FATA and welfare of natives that the problems related to education, health and development schemes should be resolved on priority basis.
Senator Saleh Shah said that the FATA has been facing various problems and relevant department should address their problems.
