Supreme Court on Friday upheld Election Commission of Pakistan's decision to disqualify Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Abdul Munim (PK-88, Shangla-II). A three-member bench led by Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh announced the verdict while in response to an election plea of rival candidate Sher Alam, who challenged the Peshawar High Court's verdict that had set aside the Election Commission of Pakistan's decision about disqualification of the PTI lawmaker.
Sher Alam, candidate of JUI-F from the constituency had challenged election result of Abdul Munim before the Election Commission of Pakistan which disqualified the PTI lawmaker to which Abdul Munim invoked the high court jurisdiction in the matter which turned down the ECP decision. Sher Alam claimed that Abdul Munim was a government school teacher and tendered resignation from the job a few days before scrutiny of his nomination papers and contested the election on PTI ticket.
