The Government College University (GCU) Lahore has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of Tehran, Iran for academic and research cooperation in the discipline of Urdu Literature. GCU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Hassan Amir Shah and University of Tehran Department of Urdu Literature Chairperson Dr Muhammad Kiou Marsi signed the six-point accord at a graceful ceremony organized by the GCU Directorate of Academic Planning and External Links (AP&EL) at the university's Syndicate Committee Room. GCU Dean Faculty of Languages, Professor Dr Iqbal Shahid, Registrar Saboor Ahmed Khan and Urdu Department Chairperson, Dr Khalid Sanjrani were also present.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Professor Hassan Shah said higher education and research had become highly advanced and multidisciplinary, and it was no more possible for a single university to have all the expertise, equipment, facilities and research material. He further added that GCU was actively strengthening research and academic ties with foreign and national universities for research collaboration, training of faculty members and exchange of students at postgraduate level.
According to the 26-point accord, both the universities have also agreed to launch research support programmes whereby they would exchange and host PhD and MPhil students from each other's university and provide them necessary training support. The universities have also agreed to exchange faculty members for short periods.
Earlier, GCU AP&EL Director Fouzia Shaheen briefed the meeting about the scope of the accord and other active research collaborations of GCU. She said that GCU and University of Tehran would also hold joint conferences, training workshops and seminars.
