The Central Executive Committee meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was summoned in Lahore on Tuesday where one of the vice presidents would be appointed acting president of the party. Principal spokesperson of the party, Senator Asif Kirmani in a statement here on Saturday said the general body meeting would be called for election of the party's permanent president.
Sources in the party said party chairman Raja Zafarul Haq would preside over the meeting while acting general secretary of the PML-N Ahsan Iqbal would present suggestions in the meeting regarding appointment of the acting president. Sources told that party leader from Balochistan and senior vice president, Senator Yaqoob Nasir would once again be made acting president adding that according to directive of the Elections Commission of Pakistan, a meeting of the general council will be convened within 45 days to elect permanent President. The date of the meeting would be announce later.
For permanent President, Shahbaz Sharif is favourite candidate while the name of Maryam Nawaz is also under consideration.
