Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique has served Rs 5 billion legal notice on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry for levelling "baseless" allegations against him, demanding him to offer a public apology within 14 days or face the legal action. In the legal notice sent to Fawad Chaudhry through his lawyer Najeeb Faisal Chaudhry, the minister has referred to his February 22 news conference by the PTI leader, in which he had accused Rafique of tendering a contract worth Rs 14 billion of Ashiyana Housing Scheme to a chosen company and levelled "false" allegations of corruption against him.
"Constitution of Pakistan guaranteeing protection of respect and reputation to every person and no person has the right to give defamatory statements about anyone without a legal reason", reads the notice.
It further stated that PTI's leader Fawad Chaudhry levelled "false and fabricated" allegations of corruption against Saad Rafique. The legal notice which was made public through a tweet by the Minister himself, asked for an unconditional public apology for this act within 14 days, or otherwise, "Rafique reserves the right for a legal action".
Responding to the notice, Fawad Chaudhry also took to the Twitter and described the legal notice as "two penny suit". "My only objection is that Saad Rafiq has fixed his value only Rs 5 billion", he tweeted; adding Rafiq was required to make a strong case.
