Business Recorder editorial 'The FATF setback' carried by the newspaper yesterday has concluded by saying that "[A]fter what has happened the government and our security establishment have learnt their lesson and will move quickly to do all that is necessary to ensure that the country permanently makes it to the 'white list' as with the present state of our indebtedness and economic fragility, the consequences of being put on the 'grey list' are too grim to be speculated."
The problem however is not that simple. Pakistan has been targeted by a US-led global conspiracy. All sinister designs seek to "cut Pakistan down to size". They cannot acquiesce to the reality that this South Asian nation has played the most important role in the global war against terrorism.
Realizing the fact that Pakistan has increased its stature in the comity of nations by defeating terrorism within its territory by making consistent efforts in spite of the lack of required resources, the US and its cohorts therefore want to punish the country on flimsy grounds.
