A delegation of members of Punjab Assembly's Standing Committee on Mines & Minerals headed by Mehr Khalid Mahmood Sargana has visited PU Centre for Coal Technology. PU VC Professor Dr Zakir Zakeria and CCT Professor Dr Shahid Munir welcomed the delegation. Dr Shahid Munir briefed the delegation about the present energy scenario and future role of coal in electricity generation specific to Pakistan and transfer of clean coal technology from developed/developing countries to Pakistan.
Professor Dr Shahid Munir and delegation agreed that there is need to enhance the local coal utilization in the indigenous coal based power plants. Members of Standing Committee on Mines & Minerals praised the technical consultancy of Professor Dr Shahid Munir given to the Punjab government in PPDB and PPDC projects for the establishment of coal fired power plants.
Professor Dr Zakria Zakar highly appreciated the role of Professor Dr Shahid Munir and provision of coal testing services to private and public sector. Future establishment of state of the art laboratories will facilitate the different stake holders of the coal sector and coal fired power plants. During this session, very fruitful discussions were conducted to further strength the vision of coal based electricity generation.
The purpose of the visit was to view the implementation of Chief Minister's vision for the development of human resource and research for coal fired electricity generation systems in an environmental friendly manner, up-gradation of indigenous coal for use in energy recovery systems.
