Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) has approached the Lahore High Court against Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal for calling the organisation a banned outfit. MWM Secretary General Nasir Abbas Sherazi pleaded that the Interior minister misled a meeting of the National Assembly and stated that the MWM was a banned outfit which also claimed involvement in terrorist activities.
He pointed out that the court in a 2015 decision declared the MWM a political party and also allowed its political activities across the country. He contended that the Interior minister made a false statement on the floor of the assembly and also committed a contempt of court. The petitioner asked the court to take action against the Interior minister under contempt law.
