World Business Council (WBC) held a high-level multi-stakeholder leadership and governance dialogue under the theme of "Pathways to Sustainable Future" for Sustainable Development Pakistan chapter here at the office of United Nations Habitat on Tuesday. The forum brought together high-level participants from business, civil society, government, academia, media, and national and international development organizations in an unprecedented collaboration effort.
The stakeholder dialogue positioned the synergy of stakeholder partnership as major driving force, business as a key solution provider and the government as the main enabler for sustainable development. The need and importance of sharing lessons and best practices and exploring new strategic themes and initiatives to support a sustainable, inclusive and resilient world was emphasized. The council's envisaged Future Leaders Team Programme received huge support and enthusiasm of the participating national and international organizations which provided various inputs and suggestions with respect to structure and features of the programme and offered support and participation to ensure its successful implementing.
Welcoming the participants, Programme Head of UN Habitat, Jawed Ali Khan stated that the WBCSD and the UN Habitat share and support the common cause and commitment with respect to sustainable development and creation and maintenance of an environment conducive to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human livelihood. Setting the scene for the dialogue and discussion, President & CEO of Pakistan chapter of World Business Council for Sustainable Development (Switzerland), Amjad Parvez Janjua presented the leadership perspective, with a particular focus on business case for sustainable development. He underscored the need for building synergies and developing institutional capacity to achieve greater efficiency and competitiveness while delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals.
In his closing remarks, Gul Najam Jamy thanked the participants for their support and commitment and hoped that the dialogue will foster the formation of cross-sector partnerships to support sustainable development in the interest of all stakeholders.
