A two-day international conference on "Women, Media and Global Perspectives" organised by Punjab University's Institute of Communication Studies began here on Wednesday. Norwegian Ambassador Tore Nedrebo was the chief guest. Director ICS Dr Noshina Saleem, Professor Oslo Metropolitan University Norway Dr Elizabeth Eide, Convener Conference Dr Bushra Hamid-Ur-Rahman Dr Abida Eijaz, Senior Journalist and analyst Mazhar Abbas, Shumaila Jaffri, Farah Zia and professors of journalism from North America, Norway, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal and Bangladesh and senior journalists and communication experts from all over the country also participated in the conference.
In his address, Norway's Ambassador Tore Nedrebo said that the society needs to adopt zero tolerance policy on sexual violence. He expressed his gratitude for being the part of international conference on such an important issue. Professor of Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway Dr Elizabeth Eide said that she had an opportunity to work in Norway as well as in Pakistan and Afghanistan. She said that her experience has made her realize that there were different understandings of working women in different societies.
She said, "We must admit that women around the world are playing their part in the development of their communities concerned". Senior journalist Mazhar Abbas highlighted the services of women journalists in Pakistan and said despite all hurdles, women journalists of Pakistan have proved their significance.
