City police Wednesday dragged daily-wage teachers of government schools and colleges of Islamabad into prison vans who have been protesting for last several days against non-payment of their salaries. The male and female teachers gathered at Kashmir Highway to protest non-payment of salaries and non-regularization of their services. They were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the government.
They had been employed some eight years ago but the department concerned denied salaries to them for the last four months, the teachers said, adding that they would continue their protest till their demands are fulfilled.
The protesting teachers blocked Kashmir Highway for traffic for several hours due to which the commuters faced problems. The police dragged them into prison vans, when they failed to convince them to end their protest and open the road for traffic.
After the police started dragging male teachers into the vans, the female teachers stood like a rock in front of vans, forcing police to stop attacking and dragging teachers.
Later, Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and other senior officials of the ministry started negotiations with protesting teachers. On this the teachers opened the road and ended their protest.
