Chicago Board of Trade corn futures followed a rally in wheat and soyabeans to hit a fresh 6-1/2-month high on Thursday, traders said. Signs of strong export demand also underpinned corn prices. Prices for the most-active CBOT corn contract peaked at $3.86-1/2 a bushel, its highest since August 10. The US Agriculture Department on Thursday morning reported weekly corn export sales of 1.753 million tonnes, up from 1.621 million a week ago. Analyst forecasts ranged from 1 million tonnes to 1.5 million tonnes.
