Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman, Imran Khan, has warned to begin countrywide campaign to protest against the 'horse-trading' in the Senate elections, Aaj News reported on Saturday. His reaction came after Pakistan Peoples Party managed to get tow of its candidates elected Senators from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, where Imran's party rules.
Khan lamented that Senate elections witnessed shameful horse-trading where votes were bought and sold and a number of elected representatives sold their votes to the highest bidder. He said it was an evidence of a moral decline of people's representatives and political class because in no Western democracy such a sale could occur. He said he had already called for direct elections or elections on party lists for the Senate. PTI chairman said the buying of votes is one of the major reasons behind the public perception that people join politics simply to make money and not to serve the general public. He said the Senate elections debased the entire political class, let alone Senate.
