Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Fata expressed concern over delay in passage of the proposed bill from Senate regarding reforms in tribal region and warned it will move the Supreme Court, if the legislation was not passed from the upper house of the parliament forthwith. Speaking at a news conference at Peshawar press club on Monday, JI Fata Ameer, Sardar Khan said that the delay in merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would further increase sense of deprivation among the people of Fata.
He said tribesmen had deprived from all fundamental rights due to imposition of draconian Frontier Crime Regulations Act on them. He added no health and education and clean drinking water facilities were available to people in tribal region. Flanked by JI Fata General Secretary, Mohammad Rafiq Afridi, Deputy Secretary General, Mohammad Hassan Shinwari, JI tribal youth leader, Farmanullah and others, Sardar Khan said the road infrastructure damaged during the prolonged militancy was yet not rebuilt in Fata.
Therefore, he stressed the need for immediate merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to mitigate the sufferings of the tribal people. JI Fata chief informed that another bill regarding extension of jurisdictions of Peshawar High Court to Fata was also stuck in Senate, which was earlier unanimously passed by federal cabinet and the National Assembly. He demanded the Senate should immediate approve the bill in order to give the right to people of Fata to appeal in the superior courts.
He sought the representation of Fata in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly during the upcoming general elections. He urged the government to announce education emergency in tribal agencies and run schools in rented buildings in Fata. He further said Rs 1000 billion package should be announced for rehabilitation and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure in the tribal region. He said the government need to fulfill its prime responsibility for provision of clean drinking water and other basic amenities to tribal people.
