The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has removed 60,000 boxes of infant formula from 3,870 medical stores during a special drive launched after regulating "Punjab Food Authority Infant Formula Marketing Regulation 2017". The PFA spokesperson said that products were discarded and removed on the violation of infant formula regulation. An action was taken in order to ensure the implementation on newly-regulated regulation about formula marketing. He said that products were being sold in market labeled as French and Nederland however, they are imported from China.
He said that children are lacking nutritional shortage due to a poor quality of infant formula. Infant formula companies are disseminating misleading information by using glossy language on their products and advertisement campaigns. He added that companies are bound to label "it is not a substitute of mother milk" on 15 percent area of the product as per Punjab Pure Food Regulation 2017.
Meanwhile, the Authority also sealed five food points including famous food chain for failing to maintain hygienic working environment here on Wednesday. The food safety teams carried out an operation against unhealthy eateries and fined 10 food business operators for not complying with PFA's instructions.
