Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmood-ur-Rashid said on Wednesday said that treasury benches can only ensure a quorum if Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif will address the issues of PML-N legislators. Rashid was talking to reporters outside the Punjab Assembly. He claimed that ruling party MPAs' are not attending the session because the government is not serious in resolving their issues. The government failed to fulfill the quorum during the current session which shows that that their members are not happy with it, he added.
Earlier, the Assembly session started 45 minutes late under the chair of Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal. The questions relating to Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal were answered by Parliamentary Secretary Muhammad Ilyas Ansari. The quorum was pointed out by PTI MPA Dr Muraad Raas which led the Speaker to adjourn the session for five minutes but the treasury benches failed to complete the quorum.
The Speaker again adjourned the session at 11:25 am for 20 minutes and directed the treasury benches to maintain the quorum but the ruling party could not do it till 1:25 pm, so the Speaker adjourned the session till Friday March 9 at 9:00 am. The House failed to adopt important consideration and passage of the bills on Wednesdays including The Limitation (Punjab Amendment Bill) 2018, The Punjab Tianjin University of Technology Lahore Bill 2017, The University of Narowal Bill 2018, The University of Sialkot Bill 2018, The Cholistan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Bahawalpur Bill 2018, The Bahawalpur Development Authority (REPEAL) Bill 2018 and The Punjab Hepatitis Bill 2017. The pre-budget discussion was also the part of the agenda.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah while talking to media outside the Punjab Assembly said if the PPP announces Raza Rabbani as candidate for the chairman Senate, it will be difficult for the PML-N to oppose it but the PPP may not nominate him.
