Hira Zubair's latest body of work talked about strength of spirituality. She wanted to know what it takes to align our souls with this world to gain maximum knowledge and peace. The exhibition titled "Let Your Soul Blossom" at Art Chowk Gallery, Karachi was a collection of paintings in subtle tones reflecting the matters related to soul.
Pleasantly delicate and understated expressions appeared in Hira's paintings. Through paintings she tried to find how a soul nurtures itself to become useful and finds its meaning of existence. Every soul has a personality and undergoes various experiences in life from anxieties, aspirations to joys and achievements.
The imaginative assimilation of reality and philosophy in images made her work more appealing. She presented her feelings symbolically within colours and patterns. Using flowers, leaves, bushes and trees as symbols of evergreen soul that flourish and thrive by cultivating its good feeling and experiences just like a gardener who take care of his plants so that they prosper and give maximum fruits and flowers of the season and grow healthy as well. He wanted them to look beautiful and smell good so that they provide smoothness to the eyes of viewers.
And according to artist same is the case of a soul which during its lifetime if being taken care of like a gardener will provide shade to others around it and will be a helpful being that others look up to. Thus in a complex but significant way she portrayed the theme underneath the foliage. Having palette of blues, reds, orange, yellow and greens with a touch of gold the paintings gave an ancient look just like a fairy tale.
She also painted human figures with wings, which look like a soul flying in gardens and picking its favourite flowers and plants symbolically as a soul choose what to take and what to reject. These choices made a soul good or bad. By nurturing your soul you let your soul blossom and it will then spread happiness and joys in the world around you and the people around you feel lucky to have you.
She showed a divine affiliation of soul with the world through vivid colour flowers and lush green plants also the symbolic figure of soul was wrapped in brilliant coloured robe. She tried to narrate her point of view in many forms and shapes with colours in a conceptual way. These shades of colours gave a feeling of soothes and calmness and depicted a ray of hope that clinched the mind and soul.
"Sustaining the soil meditates and focuses on your roots. The strength of spirituality involves our capacity to dig deep and find the greater meanings in life, to align ourselves with a purpose that extends beyond us to find unity within the universe," said Hira Zubair in a statement.
A graduate from National College of Arts Rawalpindi campus she acquired her MA in Interior Design from the National College of Arts, Lahore. She also won the Haji Sharif Miniature Award in 2010. She has participated in miniature festivals in Turkey and Algeria. (The writer can be reached at [email protected])
