A mixed trend in prices of important kitchen items was witnessed in retail market, according to survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday. In a visit to local market by this scribe in provincial capital, prices of some daily use items have slightly increased while others were remained stable. The survey noticed that price of ginger has increased in retail market as available at Rs 200 per kilogram against the price of Rs 160 per kg in previous week. Garlic is also available at Rs 200 per kg, showing a marginal increase in retail market.
A slight fall in retail price of tomato is witnessed as available at Rs 20 per kg, which was selling at Rs 30 per kg in preceding week. Big-size onion priced at Rs 40 per kilogram while small-size available at Rs 30-25 per kilogram in retail market. Red-colour potato is being available at Rs 40 per kilogram, while white-colour priced at Rs 30 per kg in retail market. Caspicum is being sold at Rs 120 per kg, peas at Rs 50 per kilogram, arvi at Rs 40 per kg.
However, price of chicken meat has declined in retail market as being sold at Rs 178 per kilogram against the rate of Rs 184 per kg in previous week, showing a decrease of Rs 6 per kg in retail market. A dozen of big-size farm eggs are being available at Rs 100 while small size farm eggs being sold at Rs 90 per dozen.
No change was witnessed in prices of pulses in retail market, the survey noticed. Good quality (sela) rice is being sold at Rs 145 per kilogram, while other available at Rs 130 per kilogram in retail market. However, a slight decline in retail price of toota rice was witnessed as available at Rs 60 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 70 per kg in previous week.
But, the survey revealed the price of dal mash was remained unchanged as available at Rs 120 per kg in retail market. It further said the dhoti dal is being available at Rs 100 per kg against the price of Rs 120 per kg in previous week.
Similarly, one-kilogram white lobiya priced at Rs 120 in retail market. Dal green is being available at Rs 120 per kilogram, moonge at Rs 120 per kg, dal masoor at Rs 100 per kg.
Likewise, price of gram flour (baisen) has decreased in retail market as being sold at Rs 120 per kg, which was selling at Rs 130 per kg during the previous week. Red bean is being available in different rates in retail market, as Rs 170, Rs 140 and Rs 120 per kg. The survey witnessed that prices of all brand and quality of cooking oil/ghee were remained unchanged as available within range of Rs 120, Rs 160 and Rs 170 and Rs 180 in retail market.
During the visit in local market, it was noticed that butchers are defying the official rates, and selling cow meat at exorbitant rate in retail market, according to which cow beef is being available at Rs 300, Rs 320 and Rs 340 per kilogram. Mutton is being sold at Rs 700 and Rs 750 per kilogram in retail market.
Fruits are staple food, which is also reaching out purchasing power of the common man, as prices have registered 'sky-high' in retail market.
According to survey, apple is being sold at Rs 200 and Rs 150 per kg, big-size Orange at Rs 90 per dozen, while small-size orange at Rs 60 and Rs 40 per dozen, , guava at Rs 80 per kg, banana at Rs 50 and Rs 80 per dozen.
The survey noticed that one litre fresh milk is being sold at Rs 100 and Rs 120 against the official fixed rate of Rs 80 per litre. Yogurt is being available at Rs 100 and Rs 110 per kg. Good quality black tea is being available at Rs 350 per kg and Rs 400 per kg, green tea at Rs 250 per kg, a one kilogram pack of milak powder at Rs 700 in retail market.
