The stakeholder of the LPG industry urged the Government to facilitate LPG industry to cut taxes on import of LPG and take measures to ensure safety standards regarding cylinders. It was demanded in the LPC conference held here on Sunday at local hotel organised by the SAAM media management, LPG Industry Association Pakistan. A large number of the stake holders of LPG industry were present in the conference.
While addressing the conference, Chairman LPG Industry Association Irfan Khokhar said that LPG imports had played a key role in smooth supply of LPG to the consumers. However, he said that regulatory duty and advance tax on LPG imports had hampered LPG imports which could result in shortfall of commodity. He appealed to the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to take action to reduce taxes on LPG imports for sustainable supply of LPG. He urged the government to make legislation to shut manufacturers of sub standards cylinder and make it non-bailable offence. He said that Punjab government had assured to support in this regard.
He further said that few LPG companies had LPG quota and demanded to end discrimination to allocate gas. He further said that 160 LPG marketing companies should be allocated gas on equitable basis. He further said that they were working with Punjab government to take initiatives to ensure safety standards in LPG cylinders. He said that he had requested Chief Minister Punjab for security of bowsers. He said that there was no compromise on security of bowsers.
CEO of EVTL Jehangir Paracha said that it was good conference as government Punjab was taking action. He said that it was good effort and urged the government to resolve issues of safety. He said that transporters had started following procedures of safety. He said that Engro had front role and Engro had invested 2 billion dollars on Thar coal and added that tariff would decline.
He said that Engro was making efforts for last ten years and Engro set up Engro terminal and imported LNG for three LNG based power plants. He said that oil replaces LNG causing saving of 1.6 billion dollars every year due to efficient power plants.
