National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday ordered probe against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and an officer of Establishment Division regarding alleged illegal appointment of chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC). An official of NAB said that Chairman NAB former Justice Javed Iqbal made these orders during a meeting to conduct complaint verification against Nawaz Sharif and an officer of Establishment Division over alleged illegal appointment of Dr Mukhtar Ahmad as HEC chairman.
He said that the NAB chairman also ordered a complaint verification of alleged corruption in the Billion Tree Tsunami Project against relevant department of government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa launched the Billion Tree Tsunami in 2014 for restoring and planting trees over 350,000 hectares of degraded forest landscapes.
He said the meeting reviewed the progress over ongoing inquiries and investigations conducted by NAB against illegal private and cooperative housing societies in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad as well as steps taken by Capital Development Authority, Rawalpindi Development Authority and Islamabad Capital Territory in this regard.
