PTI MNA Hamidul Haq and son of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi brawled on Monday in the Senate after the former chanted slogans in favour of his party chairman the moment opposition-backed independent candidate for top slot of chairman Senate was declared victorious. The emotions ran high after opposition-backed nominee for top slot of the Senate got elected and Pakistan Peoples Party's diehards kept shouting traditional "Jiay Bhutto" slogans that led to scuffle between the PPP and PML-N supporters.
The galleries were jam-packed by supporters of all the parties including some MNAs. Amid slogans a PTI MNA Hamidul Haq also shouted slogans of "Jiay Imran Khan," which led to a brawl between him and son of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi - Abdullah Abbasi - as both of them were sitting next to each other at Visitors' Gallery.
As soon as Sanjrani was announced as the new Senate Chairman, Haq started chanting slogans in PTI's favour which angered the son of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. A heated verbal argument ensued between the two that quickly escalated into a brawl. The two were separated by lawmakers and Senate staff present in the gallery. The PTI MNA was taken outside by PML-N leader Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal, while security guards took Abdullah outside the House.
Later talking to media persons outside the Senate, the PTI MNA said that sloganeering had started before the formal announcement of the successful candidate. "Once Sajrani emerged victorious, I also chanted slogans in support of my Chairman Imran Khan but two gentlemen grabbed me from behind and choked my throat," he added. He said that he would file a complaint with the National Assembly Speaker, saying: "I will ask how someone who is not a lawmaker came to the Upper House accompanied by three guards."
Talking to reporters outside the Parliament House, State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb regretted over the incident. She also said that the moment the Prime Minister came to know about the incident, he apologized with the lawmakers.
