Former Chairman Senate Senator Raza Rabbani said on Wednesday that holding of the Senate elections is a giant step towards continuity of democracy in the country. He was talking to party members on his visit to Lahore. He also visited the shrine of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh to offer fateha and laid floral wreath. He also addressed the students of a university.
He said the Pakistan People's Party has been flag-carrier of democracy and it will continue to struggle for democratic norms in future as well. Bilawal Bhutto is carrying forward the ideology of Bhutto and Benazir, he said, adding that people are the fountainhead of power and the PPP would continue to struggle to achieve the same. He vowed to play his role as an activist to promote enlightenment and progressive ideas in the society. Struggle for the rights of workers, peasants, students and deprived sections of the society would continue.
Pakistan can only develop through promoting harmony and economic stability, he maintained. He said he would play his role in controlling confrontation amongst institutions and national stability.
