The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party has approved an expense of Rs 2.1 billion, Rs 742 million more than the original estimated cost of additional building of the Punjab Assembly. The project had been in limbo since 2005 and its cost had already escalated by Rs one billion. The approval of the revised cost of the project was given in 56th meeting of PDWP of current fiscal year presided over by Chairman P&D Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan here on Friday.
Secretary, all Members of P&D, Secretaries and other senior representatives of the relevant Departments also attended the meeting. As Pakistan has the second highest number of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in the world after Egypt the development forum of the Punjab government also sanctioned Rs 130.924 million for carrying out Hepatitis prevalence survey in all districts of Punjab Province.
The Punjab government has further decided to undertake Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) Punjab, for 2016-17 at the cost of Rs 219.885 million. The survey would be carried out by Bureau of Statistics Punjab in collaboration with United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to collect internationally comparable data on a wide range of indicators on the situation of children and women.
MICS surveys measure key indicators that allow countries to generate data for use in policies and programmes, and to monitor progress towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and other internationally agreed upon commitments. MICS is flexible to adjust country specific indicators to meet planning needs such, data on income & employment, workers, remittances, safety nets, etc.
