Enterprises and Investment Promotion (E&IP) department officials of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Friday removed a 'Bachat Bazaar' that was setup at Jefco Ground, in North Nazimabad's Block-L, without KMC's permission. The action was spearheaded by Senior Director E&IP Wasiq Afredi, who said Bachat Bazaar was set up without getting required permission from the KMC.
The makeshift tents, stalls, and products on display were removed during the course of action. Afredi warned the organizers of taking stern actions if they set up Bazaar at the said location. On the other hand, the inflation-hit customers expressed dismay over KMC officials' action. They said Bachat Bazaars are very helpful for the lower-middle and poor class families to buy household items, cloths, shoes, groceries, fruits and vegetables at reasonable/affordable prices. They urged the government to encourage such Bazaar's allowing the vendors to set up concessionary markets in every neighbourhood of Karachi, instead of denying permission for business to the vendors.
