Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Zahidullah Khan Shinwari has described corruption as root cause of poverty, social problems, lawlessness and urged the government to take immediate steps for effective role of the anti-corruption department to eradicate the menace and overcome poverty.
This he said while speaking at a function jointly organised by the SCCI, Corporate Research and Investigation Group at a local hotel. The provincial Minister for Agriculture Ikramullah Khan Gandapur, Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry patron-in-Chief Fitrat Ilyas Bilour, and other senior businesspersons, government officials, Trade Development Authority representatives were also present on the occasion.
Shinwari said that everyone was condemning the menace of corruption but none of the successive governments had so far taken serious steps for its eradication so far. Referring to a report of the Transparency International that basic issue of the South Asia was corruption, he said that if corruption was controlled the people would be able to make progress.
He said that it was bad fortune of the country that the departments which were supposed to eradicate corruption were not serious to play their role effectively and that was why the national economy was on decline. He said that for control on corruption the government was supposed to keep tight check on role of various key departments like tax, revenue and police to stop the exploitation. On the occasion, the corporate, research and investigation group representatives Aziz Ahmed and Faheem Kolani also shared views against corruption.
