Ukraine's exports of white beet sugar have fallen about 44 percent to 290,900 tonnes so far this season due to unfavourable market conditions, sugar producers' union Ukrtsukor said on Monday. Ukraine reported output of 2.14 million tonnes of white sugar from beet in calendar year 2017. It plans to export 460,000 tonnes in the 2017/18 season which runs from September to August.
The union said Ukraine exported 40,900 tonnes of sugar in February, down 47 percent from a month earlier. "In general, trading on the external market has weakened due to an unfavourable conjuncture: low prices and a global surplus. Therefore, export deliveries (in February) in comparison with January have almost halved," the union said.
The union said Ukraine exported its sugar mostly to Sri Lanka, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Sudan and Libya. Ukraine consumes about 1.5 million tonnes of sugar a year.
