Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman on Thursday opposed the armed struggle to achieving goals, saying that his party always sought a peaceful democratic way to find solutions to problems. Addressing the JUI-F's "Islam Zindabad Conference" which tens of thousands of people attended held near the Numaish Roundabout, he said that his party always advocated a peaceful political struggle in the country and remained stick to the 1973 Constitution.
Holding banners and flags of JUI-F, the charged crowd chanted anti-US and anti-Israel slogans. They also raised slogans such as: "Supporters of military dictators are traitors." "We are against the militancy," Fazal said, adding that the state has to show trust in him, his followers, religious seminaries and the beard people wear.
"I cannot trust you if you [state] continue your distrust towards my madressa, beard, and turban," he said, adding that "it cannot be a one-sided affair." He also asked the democratic forces when he and his followers would have a chance to make Islamic laws in the parliament and then implement them. He also claimed the world powers were behind keeping religious forces away from implementing the Shariah in Pakistan.
"Today, the world powers with a planned agenda are keeping the religious forces away from political and democratic right to govern the country," he said, adding that "the world powers are replacing the religious forces with secular forces in the name of Islam."
He lamented religious forces are not given a chance to serve the nation.
"If Pakistan was created in the name of Islam then there should be Islamic rule," he demanded.
The JUI-F chief said if they talk about interest on wealth they [government] want us to stop talking so because it would pull down the economy. He said peace in Karachi is necessary for the national economy and people living this city.
He told the followers that the biases of all kind destroy the peace of the society. He also slammed former military ruler Pervez Musharraf for his role in letting the country fall in the war on terror. "Military dictator sold the nation. Pakistan was dragged into a quagmire of the US war."
Fazal alerted Pakistan has been isolated and even Iran is also not with us while the US is supporting India against Pakistan. He said China is also being stopped from supporting Pakistan. He also appealed to the Karachiites to support MMA in the next polls.
"Today's congregation is a referendum in favour of JUI-F," former Deputy Speaker Senate, Abdul Ghafoor Haideri told the charged supporters. He also denounced the government for selling national assets to make fiscal budget for the country. "People are getting poorer while rulers are selling assets," he said. Former chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Akram Khan Durrani lashed out at Imran Khan saying his PTI's government failed to develop the province. He said PTI claims regarding the change in KP province was nothing but a lie. He also accused PPP's Sindh government for failing to develop the province.
"I feel sorry for haplessness of Larkana," Durrani said, adding that people in Sindh have woken up to bring a political change.
Hafiz Hussain Ahmed said restoration of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) has created discontent among the opposition. He said JUI-F was the only party in Senate that pointed out the changes in blasphemy law. He demanded that not only police officer Rao Anwar but his facilitators should also be punished.
Maulana Shah Owais Noorani, Secretary General of Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan said Karachi was the city of lights, which was destroyed under a plot.
He said electoral mandate of the religio-political parties was stolen and they were divided. "The institutions should answer why our mandate was taken away," he demanded. Owais further said if the MMA came to power, it would ensure arrest of the killers of Benazir Bhutto and hand them over to the PPP.
"If 2002 Elections were not rigged, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman would have been the county's prime minister," he claimed, asserting that the MMA battled against military dictator Pervez Musharraf.
