National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights has recommended the chief secretary Punjab and chairman Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) to allot land to affectees of Tarbela Dam with approval of Board of Revenue of Punjab. The meeting of the committee was held here with MNA Babar Nawaz Khan in the chair at the Parliament House on Tuesday.
The committee said that the land to the affectees should be distributed from the land available in Bahawalpur and Cholistan. The committee discussed the implementation status of recommendations of the committee for resolving the issues of affectees of Tarbela and Warsik dams. The report of 15-member committee on affectees' record was presented by its President Ejaz Khan.
He provided all the record to the committee so that action can be taken to resolve their issues and allotment of plots to the affectees from the royalty which was deposited to the federal government and paid to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the help of Council of Common Interests (CII). He also informed the committee members that 30,000 acres of land are due to be allotted to the affectees of Terbela Dam in Sindh and Punjab, which has not been done for them for the last 50 years.
The committee also recommended that executive engineer Peshawar along with his staff and MNA Sajid Nawaz should visit his constituency, Peshawar, on April 4 in the morning to resolve the issues of affectees of Warsik Dam. The committee also recommended the executive engineer Peshawar to take care of installation of meters to the consumers therein and report to the committee on April 6 in its next meeting. The committee also recommended that chief executive PESCO should also resolve the issues of affectees and report to the committee in its next meeting for signing memorandum of understanding (MoU) on April 6, 2018.
Sahibzada Muhammad Yaqub convener of a sub-committee also presented a detailed report on the steps taken by the government to control pollution created by the industries of Hattar, district Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan and the labour policy of the government.
The committee adopted the report and recommended that Fauji Cement Factory and Best Way Cement Factory, which are being set up, should not be established in the populated areas of Khoee Nara, Khanpur Road, and Haripur.
