Deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that there is no reason to delay the next general elections and any delay in polls will not be accepted. Talking to reporters informally inside the Accountability Court hearing corruption cases against him and his family members, Sharif said that there is no reason to postpone general elections and warned that no 'doctrine of necessity' will be accepted.
Sharif termed the election of Senate chairman and changes in political scenario of Balochistan during the last three months suspicious. "The changes occurred in Balochistan politics during the last three months raise many questions," he said, adding that the Balochistan government had been changed due to these changes. He said that vote for the chairman Senate and loyalties had been purchased due to these changes. "A suspicious person has become chairman Senate and the Prime Minister should take notice of these suspicious things," he said.
Sharif said that Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan should tell the nation that his party members voted in favor of Pakistan People Party (PPP) nominated candidate for the slot of deputy chairman Senate. Sharif said that he does not know the inside story but what PPP Co-Chairman Asif Zardari is doing is very shameful.
To a question about the meeting of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, he said that he has not talked to Prime Minister regarding his meeting with the CJP. Continuing his criticism against the CJP, he said that people have been waiting for decades for court verdicts but the CJP is examining quality of milk. He further said that there is no need of the Parliament or executive as every thing is taken over by unelected forces. He said that the country had been freed from the British rulers but then it became a prisoner of martial laws.
To a question about National Accountability Bureau (NAB), he said that anti-graft body had played a role in making former General Pervez Musharraf's government and Musharraf had admitted this during an interview. This is very unfortunate that NAB laws had been made by dictators and could not be replaced, he said. About rejection of his exemption plea by the Accountability Court which he had filed to visit his ailing wife Kulsoom Nawaz in London, he said that doctors in London want him to be present there for consultations on vital medical decisions related to his wife's treatment. "But the court did not allow me to visit London to inquire after the health of my wife," he added.
When asked that the court had allowed him to travel to London in between hearings and he will have five spare days to do so, Sharif said that two days are spent in travel, adding that the last break fell on the weekend and doctors do not do consultations on Saturdays and Sundays. Replying to a question about increase in electricity load-shedding in the country, he said that thousands of megawatts of electricity has been added to the system during his tenure. "I will talk to the government to find out whether this increase in load-shedding is because of non-payment issues or there is something else," he said.
