Foreign Office on Tuesday contradicted the rumours with regard to restricting movement of foreign diplomats in the federal capital amid reports that Trump administration is mulling to restrict travel of Pakistani diplomats in the US. "No directive has been issued from MOFA [Ministry of Foreign Affairs] restricting movement of diplomats in Islamabad," Spokesperson Foreign Office Dr Mohammad Faisal said this while commenting on the rumouRs
"The rumours are all wrong," he said, adding that the diplomats will continue to move and travel as per past practice. The Foreign Office spokesperson's statement comes following reports that the Trump administration is reportedly mulling to restrict movement of Pakistani diplomats from May 01 following Pakistan summoned the US Ambassador in Islamabad on Sunday after a military attaché of the US Embassy killed a motorcyclist in a traffic accident.
The reports further claimed if the restrictions are imposed, Pakistani diplomats be allowed to travel only in 40 kilometers radius of embassy while formal permission would be required to travel the distance surpassing 40 kilometers limit.
On Sunday, the Foreign Office spokesperson said that US Ambassador David Hale was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and a strong protest was lodged on the tragic death of the motorcyclist and serious injury to the co-rider in the traffic accident yesterday that involved a US diplomat.
"The US Ambassador expressed his deep sympathy and sadness over the loss of life and assured that the Embassy would fully cooperate in the investigation," he said, adding that the foreign secretary conveyed that justice will take its course in accordance with the law of the land and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961.
