Temperature in the metropolis is expected to scale up to 40 degrees Celsius, as Met Office on Wednesday alerted the public to a fresh heat wave spell. The scorching spell is likely to bring hot and dry weather for the city on Thursday (today) and Friday with a temperature ranging up to 40 and 37 degrees Celsius respectively. Humidity level in the morning hours may reach up to 85 percent during the both days.
Chhor sizzled with a maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius, Mithi 42, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu and Padidan 41, each, on Wednesday. The Met Office said that a few districts of Sindh like Shaheed Benazirabad may witness a highest temperature of the season to touch 47 degrees Celsius while Sanghar and Noshahro Feroze 46, each, in the next 24 hours.
Dadu, Tharparkar and Umerkot districts are likely to undergo a scoring temperature of 45, 44 and 43 degrees Celsius, respectively. The hot weather may scale up mercury to 42 degrees Celsius in Hyderabad, Tando Allah Yar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Jamshoro, Mityari, Sukkur, Ghotki and Khairpur districts on Thursday.
Temperature in Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Qambar Shahdadkot, Badin and Mirpurkhas is likely to grow to 41 degrees Celsius. Thatta, Sujawal and Karachi are expected to simmer with 40 degrees Celsius over the period. Over the past 24 hours: Badin and Hyderabad received a maximum temperature of 40.5 degrees Celsius, each, Jacobabad and Mirpurkhas 40, each, Moen-Jo-Daro, Thatta and Sukkur 39.5, each, Larkana, Rohri and Sukrand 39, each, and Karachi 38.4.
Weather elsewhere in the country in the next 24 hours is expected to remain widely hot and dry with more isolated rain-thundershower and gusty winds in Malakand, Hazara, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala Divisions, besides Islamabad, Upper FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. "A westerly wave is still affecting upper parts of the country," the Met said.
