The vice-chancellors of public sector universities of Punjab has unanimously constituted the First Vice Chancellor Committee and nominated Professor Dr Hassan Amir Shah, Vice Chancellor GCU Lahore as its head, during a meeting Friday at Government College University, Lahore.
The meeting which was chaired by Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gilani, and attended by Chairperson PHEC Professor Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin, Additional Secretary HED Maryam Kayani, and vice chancellors from all public sector universities of Punjab.
The seven member committee comprises of Vice Chancellors of Government College University Lahore, University of Education Lahore, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, Fatima Jinnah Women Medical University Lahore, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Govt. Sadiq College for Women University Bahawalpur, and Govt. College University Faisalabad; Punjab Higher Education Commission would provide the secretarial support to the committee.
Chairing the meeting, Syed Raza Ali Gilani informed the vice-chancellors about the role of PHEC in the post-18th amendment scenario and briefed them about the various meetings and stance of the province on higher education in the Council of Common Interest (CCI). "We have had number of meeting with HED and Federal Government in CCI; we have worked proactively, have presented our case strongly and come to a decision which has strengthened PHEC and mitigated your concerns" Minister said.
The Minister pledged his support to resolve the financial, administrative and others issues by presenting them before the Chief Minister of Punjab. "We will have a meeting with the Chief Minister and present the recommendations of the committee, nascent constituted, to get all our issues resolved on top priority," he added.
Chairperson PHEC Professor Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin said that the committee, besides deliberating upon the individual matters of the universities, would discuss the issues related to financial, academic, administrative, quality enhancement, standardization and internationalization of higher education reforms, and would present their recommendations, through Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), to the Government of the Punjab.
