Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has announced to hold Biennial Medical Conference 2018 after a long period of sixteen years in Peshawar and pleaded to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to time-frame for the elections of Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC).
The meeting of the central council of Pakistan Medical Association held here in Rehman Medical Institute (RMI) on Sunday. Those who attended were included PTI MNA Dr Azhar Jadoon, president PMA, Dr Ikram Ahmad Tunio, Secretary General Dr SM Qaiser Sajjad, general secretary Peshawar Sanaullah Bangash, president PMA Punjab, Dr Izhar Chaudhry, Dr Qazi Wasiq, Dr Shiraz Iqbal and others.
The meeting decided that 33rd Biennial Medical Conference will be held in Peshawar from November 23 to 25, 2018, both national and international health experts and doctors will participate and besides presenting their research will also highlight problems and future challenges, which will benefit the young doctors. PMA is active since 1948 and this time the central leadership will be elected from Peshawar, which will be formally announced during the conference.
Later, briefing the media, the general secretary PMA, Dr Qaiser Sajjad said that the court had dissolved Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, which is laudable step. However, he said that the interim/ad-hoc committee constituted by the Supreme Court had not been given any timeframe for holding elections. He said that the committee has been given three to four months for holding elections to elect new body. He said that PMA welcomed the suo moto action taken by the apex court over the poor health and delivery system, but he said that instead of visiting hospitals the concentration should be made on reforming the system in hospitals.
Dr Qaiser Sajjad asked the politicians to instead of going abroad they should avail medical facilities in their own country, which not only boost confidence of the people on hospitals will rather help improve the conditions of hospitals.
