The Chief Justice of Pakistan on Saturday remarked that there was no room for martial law either in the Constitution or in anyone's mind and reiterated his stance to step down if democracy ceases to exist in Pakistan. Addressing a ceremony in connection with Allama Iqbal's death anniversary in Lahore, the CJP Mian Saqib Nisar said that Quaid-e-Azam envisaged democracy in Pakistan and hence, only democracy could prevail in Pakistan. The CJP said responsibility to provide basic facilities lies with the state and the sanctity of vote is to serve the nation, he added.
"Have I done something wrong while working for the provision of basic rights? We have to work for Pakistan while setting aside personal gains," the CJP remarked. The CJ Saqib Nisar stated that Pakistan has been a result of continuous struggle and countless sacrifices, adding that "we didn't get Pakistan as charity or gift".
"Pakistan's future would have not been like this if Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal had been among us in the initial years," he said. He maintained that democracy will continue to prevail in the country formed by Quaid-e-Azam. The CJP also stressed over the importance and significance of equal opportunities to education. " Providing equal system of education to all is the responsibility of the state", the CJP added.
