Deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain Muhammad Safdar (retd) appeared on Tuesday before the Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir. Amjad Pervez, the counsel for Maryam and Safdar, completed the cross-examination of the prosecution witness and Director General National Accountability Bureau Zahir Shah in the Avenfield case and Khawaja Haris, counsel for Sharif, started cross-examination of Shah in the Flagship reference which will also be continued today (Wednesday).
To a question asked by Pervez, Shah said he acquired a copy of Volume-X of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report through writing a letter to the registrar of Supreme Court. He also said that he had written a letter to the registrar in the month of August. Shah said that he shared the selected portion of Volume-X only with investigation officers.
Sharif, Maryam and Safdar were present in the court during the hearing and were later allowed to leave. To a question Shah said that the letter dated March 20, 2018 did not indicate who produced the copy of register title to the UK central authority. It is correct that the document did not have receipt stamp of the UK central authority, he said.
Later, the court started recording the statement of Shah in the Flagship reference before Khajwa Haris cross-examined him. Shah produced a copy of register of title and copies of companies house record related to the Flagship reference.
To a question asked by Haris, Shah said that all MLA requests were part of Volume-X of the JIT report. Haris asked Shah, "Did you go through these MLA requests in detail?" On this, Shah said that he did not go through these in detail. The court adjourned hearing till today (Wednesday). Haris will continue cross-examination of Shah.
