Expressing concern over weakening of the Pak rupee, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday that the country's issues would be resolved when the GDP growth rate will cross the mark of 7 percent. "When the PML-N came into power, the growth was at 3.9 per cent, but we worked devotedly and took it to 5.8 per cent," he said. "As per IMF forecast, the projections for the next years are lower at 4.9 per cent."
While addressing the PML-N leaders from Gujranwala and Faisalabad divisions at Model Town, Nawaz said: "A country that was on the path to progress is going to backwards now." This should not have happened because future of coming generations is linked with the country, he said. He also commented on the Indian PM's visit to China and its meeting with Chinese leaders. He said that mutual ties with India and China are improving.
Nawaz said when the PML-N government came into power, the Pak rupee was stable but now, he added, the currencies of even Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal are strong versus the local currency and one dollar is available at Rs 120.
He said there is no writ of the government today. "What is use of contesting elections if we cannot serve the masses? I ask Shahbaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi that where is the writ of government?" he questioned. Criticizing his political opponent Imran Khan, the PML-N supreme leader said that the PTI chief speaks of change but takes orders from 'above'. "Does the order from above refer to Bani Gala?" Nawaz questioned. He also shared the 'game' played to change the PML-N government in Balochistan.
"We should not engage in politics if we want to take orders from above," he said. "Such behaviour is that of a hypocrite as Imran used to call PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari 'a disease' yet he voted for the arrow (the electoral symbol of PPP)."
