Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique said Punjab has introduced a successful model of dengue control globally and even the Sri Lankan experts were astonished to see our success. He expressed these views while addressing a meeting here on Friday. Secretary SH&ME Najam Ahmed Shah and senior officers of all the concerned departments attended the meeting. The Deputy Commissioners and health CEOs of other districts also participated through video link.
Minister observed that the interim government will need to continue with vigorous anti-dengue activities in order to keep a control on the dengue. He said a minor overlook on the surveillance and monitoring of dengue activities can change the situation. Dengue Experts Advisory Group chairman Professor Faisal Maqsood said due to recent rains the chances of dengue breeding has increased and thus the present dengue control activities should continue in the coming days. He disclosed that a large number of new born babies in every dengue-affected city are not immune against this virus and hence there are chances of more dengue patients in this season.
On this occasion, Secretary Health Najam Ahmed Shah urged that necessary instructions from the services and general administration department should be passed on to the district administrations during the interim period in order to continue with the present anti-dengue activities. Earlier, General Dengue Control Programme Additional Director Dr Saeed Ghumman briefed the meeting about the dengue situation in the province and the anti-dengue activities. He said that so far dengue situation in the province is satisfactorily under control.
