The Supreme Court (SC) accepted on Wednesday Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) former senator Faisal Raza Abidi's unconditional apology in a contempt of court case.

A three-member bench, headed by Justice Azmat Saeed, took up the contempt of court case against the PPP leader. The bench accepted the written apology by Abidi and closed the case against him. The bench, however, said that the remaining similar cases against Abidi will be heard in their courts, local media reported,

The PPP leader, during an interview, had used derogatory language against the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar and also insulted the judiciary. Following the interview, a case was filed against him for his statements.

On December 17, an anti-terrorism court indicted him for insulting and using inappropriate language against the CJP, however, Abidi pleaded not guilty.
