Opposition in the Sindh Assembly on Tuesday slammed the PPP led government over alleged 'corruption' in MPAs annual budgetary development funds, saying that it has failed to solve public problems in its decade-long rule in the province. As debate on the budget for fiscal year 2018-19 continued for the second day, the opposition legislators severely criticized the government for its poor governance that resulted in deteriorating the civic infrastructure and unhygienic conditions for spillover of sewerage water and heaps of garbage across the city.
MQM's legislator defected to PSP Sumeta Afzal Syed accused the government of embezzling MPAs annual budgetary funds that meant for infrastructure and civic development in their constituencies. She said non-release of funds to the MPAs has breached their privilege, demanding for a probe in the alleged corruption. She also asked the government to answer to the public sharing details in the house.
MQM's Sabir Qaimkhani blamed the government for not developing the city in 10-year long rule that suffers from reeks of a spread over garbage and sewage spillover. He said PPP-government drove back the province to the worst levels of underdevelopments despite abounding resources. He said that government has increased budget allocations for non-development expenditures. He also alleged the government of a 'record' corruption.
PML-F's lady legislator, Mehtab Akbar Rashdi said the government presented the highest deficit budget, despite the nine among the all departments have spent not 'a single penny' on development during the current fiscal year. She said the ministers heading the nine government departments have no abilities to carry out development projects for the province. She slammed the government for heavy-handedness against growers.
PPP's lawmaker, Khursheed Junejo complained about the deteriorated irrigation networks in the rural Sindh, saying the key infrastructure still needs a priority for revamping. He said the province, which his party rules, is far-behind from other provinces. He also advised his government to take steps to end the 'copy culture' that plagued the examination system with falling standards of education.
PML-N's Shah Hussain Sherazi said the province has failed to attain infrastructure development after the departure of former military chief and president, General Pervez Musharraf (retd). He ironically said "dust is swirling all across Sindh, as no development work took place after the Musharraf tenure which ended with 2008 general election." He said the jobs are being sold in Sindh and pointed at poor healthcare facilities.
PTI's Samar Ali Khan declared that "I will not contest polls next time just to waste my time," saying that the elected representatives failed to serve the public in the five year tenure, as problems continued to grip the province. "Bhutto is alive but where his dream dwells," he asked the treasury, saying that "Bhutto's slogan was bread, clothing and shelter," and the government should tell me whom they provided with the basic amenities.
He told the House that education minister showed him a letter of Faryal Talpur, who is the sister of PPP's co-chairman and former president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, barring Jam Mehtab Dahar from constructing a toilet in a government-run school located in his constituency. "If I cannot build a toilet for my children in a school than I should migrate from Sindh," he said, adding that "the development funds are caught by prejudices". The debate on budget will continue as the House stands adjourned till Wednesday morning.
