Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain Muhammad Safdar (retd) will record their statements before Accountability Court in the Avenfield reference on Friday (tomorrow). During the hearing of Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metals Establishment (HME) reference on Wednesday, Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir said the court will prepare a questionnaire and hand it over to the accused persons including Sharif, Maryam and Safdar with regard to recording of their statements.
The court declared the other two accused Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz as proclaimed offenders in the same case. The court during the previous hearing decided to start the process of recording statements of the accused in the Avenfield reference under section 342 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), wherein an accused is given an opportunity to defend himself/herself before the issuance of final verdict after testimonies and cross-examination of all prosecution witnesses are completed.
