The Lahore High Court on Wednesday reserved its verdict on maintainability of a petition seeking action against Nawaz Sharif under treason charges for his recent media statement on Mumbai attacks. The court was hearing two petitions-one filed by General Secretary Pakistan Awami Tehreek Khurram Nawaz Gandapur and another by Chairman Pakistan Zindabad Party Aftab Virk Advocate.
The court reserved the verdict on maintainability of the petition. The counsel for the other petition Ahmad Awais pleaded the court for amendment in the petition and court allowed it accordingly.
Both the petitioners in their petition said that Nawaz Sharif gave 'irresponsible' statement and brought bad image to Pakistan across the world.
They said that Nawaz Sharif's statement benefited India and equally damage the safety and the interests of state. They said apparently Sharif was guilty of high treason as well as offences punishable in terms of the Official Secret Act, 1923. They said Nawaz Sharif was liable to be proceeded against under Article 6 of the Constitution as well as Sections 3 and 5 of Official Secret Act.
