SWC directs rehabilitation of water filtration, sewerage treatment plants in Hyderabad

Sindh Water Commission (SWC) on Thursday took up the issues related to water filtration and sewerage treatment plants in Hyderabad and issued directives for their rehabilitation and completion to provide relief to the citizens of the city.
One-man judicial commission headed by former Justice Amir Hani Muslim was informed that project pertaining to remaining work of waste water stabilization ponds at Qasimabad, Hyderabad is stuck-up on account of internal issues, though an amount of Rs 200 million has been approved and authenticated by the competent authority.
The commission directed Chairman Task Force Jamal Mustafa Syed to take the responsibility to ensure that the process of re-tendering takes place and all the remaining work is completed without any loss of time.
As far as the liability of the contractor is concerned, it should be determined by Commissioner Hyderabad in coordination with Secretary Local Government by deputing experts from the relevant departments.
The commission directed Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) Hyderabad to take immediate steps under the guidance of commissioner on waster water stabilization Qasimabad.
It also instructed Chairman Task Force to resolve the issues pertaining to rehabilitation & upgradation of water filter plant at Latifabad Unit 4, the proposed PC-1 for rehabilitation of Hyderabad Distribution System and rehabilitation of pre-settlement lagoons/reservoirs Jamshoro old and new filter plants and ordered it to report back to the commission.
About work plan of new 6 MGD new filter plant at Hussainabad with a cost of Rs800 million, the commission directed WASA to improve its work plan and re-submit to Chairman task force. Though the scheme was scheduled to be completed in three years, however on the suggestion of commission, the work plan squeezed the execution period to two years.
Chairman Planning & Development Board Sindh, Muhammad Wasim assured that the commission that finances for this project would not be an issue, if execution agency plans quicker work and is able to carryout the execution before time.
He also informed the commission that PC-1 for "Improvement & Enhancement of Sewerage System in Taluka City Area District Hyderabad was received previous day. The commission directed Chairman Task Force to coordinate with WASA, P&D Department Sindh and Commissioner Hyderabad to carry out the work on it at earliest basis so no delay is caused after the issuance of administrative approval.
The commission was also appraised about progress Northern Sewerage Treatment Plant and Eastern/Southern Sewerage Treatment Plants in Hyderabad. It directed WASA to submit work plan on Northern STP in three days of successful tendering.
