Hong Kong's benchmark stock index fell on Thursday, despite a jump in index heavyweight Tencent Holdings , as US and China resumed trade talks in Washington. The Hang Seng index fell 0.5 percent, to 30,942.15, while the China Enterprises Index lost 1.3 percent, to 12,278.43 points.
The sub-index of the Hang Seng, tracking energy shares, dipped 0.9 percent while the IT sector rose 2.95 percent, the financial sector was 1.26 percent lower and property sector dipped 0.97 percent.
The top gainer on Hang Seng was Tencent Holdings Ltd, up 3.74 percent, while the biggest loser was WH Group Ltd, down 2.15 percent. As of the previous trading session, the Hang Seng index was up 3.98 percent this year.
